Dear Mother,
I must have taken 450 photos today and walked for about six hours. It's bedtime, for sure, but I wanted to share a few photos showing where we had dinner this evening. Since it is Friday and we had no reservation, we knew we needed to show up early, so we were there by 6:45--the first customers of the evening. This little place is really a crêperie (obviously a place which serves mainly crêpes).
They use recipes from Brittany (and thankfully not the bagpipes).
They also offer a variety of ciders, both dry and sweet, but I have difficulty with the acid levels so I stick with the tried and true.
The timbered ceilings were fun and the decor utterly simple, almost reminding me of former monastic establishments in Vienna.
The evening's cook is from Sri Lanka, but he was busy so we didn't get to talk cricket, his favourite sport. I did, however, compare notes with the waiter concerning French football. We both detest the same team (Paris St Germain), so we remained friends.
This was a favourite sign: "Here, work is sacred, above all, one never touches it!"
The gallettes (enormous crêpes) were made of whole wheat flour and filled with a variety of things. Mine had lardons (bacon pieces) potatoes, various vegetables, etc., and all was covered with an egg. It doesn't look like much, but it can be nearly filling.
Nearly, but not completely . . . we shared a sweet crêpe for dessert. I like to include some greens with most of my meals.
I spent most of the day walking downtown, but those photos will have to wait. Bedtime,
with love from us both,
Evan

I like the sign - some certainly live by it here at the hospital. I'm more mindful of something Henry Ford is reputed to have said: "Hacher votre propre bois, et il vous réchauffera deux fois" which seems more appropriate to how one should enjoy the food there.
